Imran Akram, M.D., Psychiatrist
Dr. Imran Akram is a trained Adult and Geriatric Psychiatrist. He provides and helps coordinate comprehensive care for his clients, helping them find access to all the resources that they need for holistic care through a combination of utilizing community resources, social workers, psychologists, coaches and others who can benefit his clients.
Dr. Akram completed an adult psychiatry residency and a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, Virginia. He did his ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy) fellowship at Emory University. He is proficient in dealing with acute crisis intervention in inpatient settings and chronic and maintenance treatment in outpatient settings. Dr. Akram has a special interest in depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, bipolar affective disorder, schizophrenia, substance abuse and the use of electroconvulsive therapy, which has emerged, through research and practice, to become a safe and effective treatment for certain segments of the population.
Prior to relocating with his family to the Northern Virginia area, Dr. Akram served at a highly reputed hospital Alexian Brothers Health System in the suburbs of Chicago, where he was involved in the treatment of adult patients, geriatric patients, patients with eating disorders and addictions and providing ECT. He is a member of American Psychiatric Association and Psychiatric Society of Virginia.
